A View From the Top

By |2014-06-17T19:05:00+00:00June 17th, 2014|Summer 2014|

Yesterday our newest students were officially initiated into Toronto life with a trip to the top of the CN Tower, the city’s most famous landmark. Students enjoyed the 58-second elevator ride, which rocketed students 348m into the air. Then they took in the incredible view of Toronto and the surrounding areas. The sky was so clear that they could see all the way across the border with the USA! For the bravest individuals, the class floor provided a death-defying thrill.

Students hard at work testing their grammar skills

It’s finally time! Our first groups arrived today to kick off another fantastic summer in Toronto at Quest. It promises to be another fantastic summer filled with great fun, exciting adventures and new friends. But first, the students arrive at Quest’s main campus for level testing. First, a short interview to test speaking ability, and then a compuet-based grammar exam. These tests are used to determine the students’ levels so we can place them in the appropriate classes.

Classroom Fun 2013

By |2013-07-31T22:31:00+00:00July 31st, 2013|Summer 2013|

Not only do Quest students get to enhance their cultural and linguistic immersion experiences through afternoon/evening/weekend activities, but they also go to class five mornings a week. Class involves focus on grammar and conversation skills. But it’s not all work! Class can be fun too! We want students to get up, get moving, and get active as much as possible. Students enjoyed taking part in cooperative games that both helped them get to know their peers, and improve their English.

We even find opportunities for students to go on mini field trips with their classes! This year, a lot of the students wanted to go bargain shopping at Dollarama (a very cheap store with every item you can think of!). One of our classes also went to the nearby Allen Gardens (a small botanical garden) where they got to see a variety of plants and flowers.

Beaches Jazz Festival – July 25

By |2013-07-25T20:33:00+00:00July 25th, 2013|Summer 2013|

Our students were lucky to be around for one of Toronto’s best festivals… the Beaches Jazz Festival! Although the streets were very crowded, students were surprised by how much they enjoyed the live music, good food, and fun atmosphere.

High Park – July 24

By |2013-07-24T20:55:00+00:00July 24th, 2013|Summer 2013|

Today, some of our student groups went to High Park, Toronto’s largest (and arguably the most beautiful) park. After a bit of suntanning, students formed teams and played a few games of soccer. Afterwards, many people decided to jump in the pool for a quick swim.

Shopping at Vaughan Mills – July 24

By |2013-07-24T20:28:00+00:00July 24th, 2013|Summer 2013|

Students were able to check a lot of things off their shopping lists at Vaughan Mills Outlets, just north of Toronto! Many of the students were very organized and had lists of what they wanted to buy for their families and friends (and of course, themselves!). When it was time to leave, many students wanted even more time… although if we’d stayed any longer, we couldn’t have fit all our new purchases on the bus!

Boat Cruise Disco Party – July 23

By |2013-07-23T20:26:00+00:00July 23rd, 2013|Summer 2013|

Tonight, more of our students spent time dressing up for the Boat Cruise Disco Party on Lake Ontario. The view was incredible the music was pumping, and the dancing was off the hook! Plus the students got to meet new friends from other countries.

Blue Jays Game – July 22

By |2013-07-22T20:16:00+00:00July 22nd, 2013|Summer 2013|

Our Brazilian students enjoyed a new experience tonight… a Blue Jays Baseball game at the Rogers Centre! Although it was difficult to figure out the rules, students had a lot of fun watching the game, enjoying the exciting atmosphere, cheering, trying to get on the Jumbotron screen, and buying Blue Jays gear!

Movies – July 22

By |2013-07-22T17:06:00+00:00July 22nd, 2013|Summer 2013|

On Monday afternoon, students headed to the Carlton cinema to watch a movie. Students chose between Grown Ups 2 and Despicable Me 2 (better known among our students as Gru 2). Everyone really enjoyed the movies… even though they were sequels, they were both hilarious! And the students who chose to see Despicable Me 2 had the theatre all to themselves. All in all, a great way to spend a cool Monday afternoon!
